How are we different?

We are the only hands-on training class that gives you 1-on-1 attention and takes place at a fully functioning shop. Training in a brick and mortar shop gives you experience with live projects and situations. We not only show you best practices for installations; we open up our playbook for running a successful business and handling all aspects customer projects.

What is a day of training like?

Our class starts at 9am and ends at 4pm. Remember, during your hands-on training we work for you. When you arrive we will do a debrief on what your current skills are, as well as your needs and goals. Austin will then structure your day to practice what will help you achieve your goals for the class. This could be shadowing him, practicing a specific technique, or getting hands on with a project. 


For lunch, you choose a meal from some of the best restaurants in town. We don’t require that you take a break for a specific amount of time. Most trainees eat their lunch and get right back to training. 


You also have the ability to come in between 8am-9am and from 4pm-5pm for extra time to practice what you’ve learned so far.

Your Flight

We recommend flying into the San Luis Obispo Airport (SBP). The San Luis Obispo airport is only 3 miles away from our training facility.  You can fly into other major airports in California like LAX or SFO, however your commute time to San Luis Obispo will be 3.5 hours or more.

Known for its lively downtown, beaches, mountains, museums and art galleries, eateries, and wine and craft beer tasting rooms, San Luis Obispo has something for every type of traveler. Make sure to build some R&R time into your trip to explore San Luis Obispo and the surrounding beaches and towns.

While you are training in the happiest places on earth (dubbed by Oprah Winfrey), you will also be able to ask Austin any questions that come to mind. These can be business or personal questions. We are completely transparent with our trade secrets and will help you in any way we can. You will also be given Austin's personal cell phone number for future questions you may have.

    • How much is the Hands-On Training

      The training is $800/person/day. We do offer group discounts if you’d like to bring multiple people from your company. Please call 805-741-5751 or email (media@thetintstitute.com) for pricing.

    • How long are the classes each day?

      Oue 1-on-1 training classes start at 9am and end at 4pm. We provide complimentary lunch for trainees, but do not require that you take a specific amount of time for lunch. We also offer extra practice time from 8am-9am and from 4pm-5pm in which you have full access to our film and shop.

    • Where is the training facility located?

      Our training facility is located in San Luis Obispo, CA at 3583 S. Higuera St. When you show up you will see the name Quality on the building, that is the name of our brick and mortar shop. We do not offer 1-on-1 trainings anywhere else. If you are not able to travel we recommend our online membership.

    • What type of payment methods do you accept?

      We accept card, venmo, apple pay, cash or check payments. If you have another type of payment please ask and we will verify if we can accept it.

    • When is my payment for training due?

      You will pay your first day of training upon booking, the remaining amount will be due when you arrive. For example if you are coming for 3 days, you will pay $700 upfront and the remaining $1,400 when you arrive.

    • What exactly will I learn, is there a schedule?

      There is not a set schedule to our hands-on training. Why? All of our trainees skill sets, needs and goals are different. When you show up for class we will discuss your specific needs and cater the class to you.

    • Can I split Hands-On Training between 2 services?

      When you come for hands on training we work for you. We will cover whatever you’d like to. If you come for 3 days we are more than happy to split the training up. For example we can work on tinting for 1 day and ppf for 2 days. We do recommend spending at least 3 days on a single service if you are a beginner at that service. 

    • What is the best airport to fly into for training?

      Ideally you will want to fly into the San Luis Obispo Airport (SBP). This airport is about 5 miles from shop. LAX (Los Angeles Airport) and SFO (San Francisco Airport) are about 3.5-4.5 hours away depending on traffic. 

    • Do I get a certification at the end?

      Yes, all trainess get a certification upon completion.

    • What hotel should I stay at?

      There is a wide selection of hotels within 5 miles of the airport and our training facility. Popular hotels include:

    • Can I come with multiple people and are there group discounts?

      Our trainings are 1-on-1 with Austin unless you'd like to come with mutiple people from your company. If you'd like to come as a group we offer group discounts. Group bookings can now be reserved online. If you have a group larger than 3 people please contact us at media@thetintstitute.com.

    Hands on Training Catered to You

    The Tintstitute's 1-on-1 hands on training takes place at our facility in San Luis Obispo. All trainings include: certificate of completion, free lunch, all tools and film provided. Please contact us for group discounts, group classes are limited to 4 students. Our program is taught in a full functioning shop, and all students will experience the day to day business aspects of the shop, including interaction between employees and customers, office administration, marketing, and custom graphics and design.
